New Bank of Canton AVP/Branch Manager Thi Tu (NMLS #722236)
CANTON, Mass. (June 9, 2021) – Thi (Ty) Tu has been named assistant vice president and manager of Bank of Canton’s 60 McGrath Highway branch in Quincy. Fluent in Vietnamese, and with more than 15 years of banking experience that includes national, regional and local banks, Mr. Tu brings a diverse professional background and skill set to his new role.
“I’ve worked for many years in Quincy, where over 25% of residents identify as Asian or Asian-American,” said Mr. Tu. “As a first-generation immigrant myself, I understand the financial needs and questions of many newcomers. I went into finance and pursued a career in banking because I recognized need for greater financial education among our immigrant communities, and our established local communities, too.”
Mr. Tu continued, “I was drawn to Bank of Canton because of its involvement with the local Quincy business community, Chamber of Commerce, and many of the city’s vital nonprofits such as Quincy Community Action Programs, Quincy Asian Resources Inc., and Interfaith Social Services. I’m proud to work for a bank that cares so strongly about the city and the welfare of its residents.”
Mr. Tu joins Bank of Canton from Eastern Bank, where he served most recently as a VP/branch manager in Quincy. He also previously managed the South Quincy branch of Citizens Bank.
“We’re excited about Thi joining the bank’s Quincy team,” said David Scarcella, vice president of branch management and administration at Bank of Canton. “He already knows the local landscape, and he’s eager to begin working with our established customers and also develop relationships with new clients as well. He shares our values of community involvement and investment, and we’re excited for him to help grow Bank of Canton’s presence in the City of Quincy.”
With the addition of Mr. Tu, Bank of Canton’s Quincy branch now has four bilingual staff members, with combined fluency in Chinese, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Burmese, Taoshanese and Thai.
In addition to his new role at Bank of Canton, Mr. Tu volunteers on the board of directors of Cambridge’s Tutoring Plus, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing educational equity by supporting youth in their academic, personal and social growth. He also serves on the leadership council of the Boston chapter of Bottom Line, an organization which helps first-generation students from low-income backgrounds stay in college and complete their degrees.
Mr. Tu earned his B.S. in Finance from the University of Utah. He lives in Braintree with his wife, Rachael, and their Pomapoo dog, Milo.
